The Solar Open Day, meant to create awareness on renewable energy and energy efficiency products and services drew crowds of people to the NUL campus on Thursday, 8th April 2021. Over 120 people signed in as they viewed the various demonstrations, even more people just wandered in and out. For an event that was publicised 2 days prior, it was successful beyond expectations!
“This is the best day of my life!” exclaimed Ntate Ivan Yaholnitsky from Bethel Business and Community Development Center (BBCDC). His Center provided the public with endless muffins throughout the event, baked with solar energy.
“We saw smiles from people who don’t often smile, people were happy. We need more days like this” said Ausi Nthabeleng Maime, MSc in Sustainable Energy Student.
“We didn’t expect such a beautiful event, you had to be there to enjoy it. A lot of things to learn.” That’s what the excited Dr Relebohile Morojele said.
“The solar geyser with the chlorowhat what sounded different from any other I have heard before, it’s worth exploring” said Mrs Limpho Nchephe-Motanyane.
“Events like this should be held often because now we realise that Lesotho is really doing something regarding the use of renewable energy sources which is something we were not aware of” said one captivated gentleman at the event.
Lebohang Mathe from African Clean Energy (ACE) said “The event is a huge success because we managed to reach out to a lot of people about the ACE stoves and a lot of people were so captivated they wanted to buy them on the spot. This was really great as we managed to attract new customers”
Upon learning about the event, this is what Professor Peter Droege, the PRESIDENT of EUROSOLAR (www.EUROSOLAR.org ) and World Council for Renewable Energy (www.wcre.org) said “Next time we will be there in person! We will be delighted to cooperate with the ERC.”
The ERC would like to thank all the institutions which came to demonstrate their products and services, and all the people who came to check the demonstrations. The ERC promises to inform the people and the nation well in advance on the next Open Days which will take place across the country.
